In my biz I have standard operating procedures that document our quality control standards.
Products in bulk are put through a 28 point inspection before even being considered for sale.
The farmer's I work with I have known for years. I have the utmost respect for them and their business. But I would be doing them and more importantly the public a disservice by not doing internal qc.
Recently I was performing qc on product from a farmer I've known for 20 years, I helped get his son trained in farming, we've broken bread together.
I was upset at what I found. Cbd distillate powder was on the product.
Most likely it was just a mistake but from a business perspective it's a serious issue.
His operation in Oregon has grown too big for his business model and quality is suffering.
Now I do get to call him up for the awkward conversation but it needs to be done.
I removed the tainted product and performed a second round of inspections of all other products from him, they all passed thankfully. But until he gets his business under control he moves to the bottom of my list of farmer's.
Again, not all wholesalers are just in it to make a buck. Some of us embrace the role of ensuring the products we sell are exactly what we say they are and safe for consumers.
I will always eat the cost of a pound for the longevity of my business and the industry. It's never worth the risk
